Very interesting. Thanks. There is so much more to the movie than there is Proulx's original short (11 pages) story. The screenwriters did a wonderful job of fleshing it out into a full length movie.

It may not have won the Oscar, but it had a lot of nominations, won so many other awards....and has opened the door for future filmakers.

Yes, I've read the story. It's very good and it's only 11 pages long. It was written for, and published in "The New Yorker" magazine in 1997. I found it at their website.

No, I didn't save the direct link, but I googled "The New Yorker magazine" and when I got that, I just started searching for archived fiction. I think that's how I found it. I knew it was printed in 1997 and if I recall correctly, they had the stories listed by year.
